CCTV Drain Survey Rats
Positive Environmental carry out specialist CCTV surveys of drains to identify rat entry points and associated drain defects.
Rats in drains
A high percentage of rat infestation problems within UK homes and properties are due to defective drainage systems.
As specialist pest controllers we always search for and identify the entry route when controlling rat infestations within properties. Sometimes the entry point is obvious such as holes in walls left by poor building or repair work, but quite often it requires a little more detective work. With attached properties we have to consider movement of rats from the adjacent property.
If an entry point cannot be found above ground, then it is likely the rats have found a way in underground. This could be around a water pipe or electricity cable, but very often it is to do with drains. Rats live in drains and properties are connected to the drains, therefore any drain defect will allow rats to enter the property, then effectively move around in cavities including accessing the attic space.
Rats will take advantage of simple defects to create an opening allowing them to exit the drains and get into your property. A 1-2mm edge where drains join for example, provides enough of an edge for a rat to start gnawing and to make a hole. If this is where the drain comes out of or is even inside the building, they are now inside your property.
Inspecting the drains when you have a rat infestation and unable to work out how they are getting in is essential. It needs to be done by someone who understands both rat control and drains. This is our speciality. We know what to look for.
Our drain camera inspection surveys will identify drainage defects such as displaced joins, broken or fractured pipework & redundant junctions, including defective systems beneath extensions and conservatories.
